How might we reinvent the design of “school”?

Transcend’s National Design Accelerator is a self-directed, nine-month school design journey that brings together design concepts and tools, support from a Transcend coach, access to all of Transcend’s resources and network, and engagement with a national virtual cohort of like-minded leaders on a similar journey—all while requiring fewer hours from school leaders.

Origins of the Accelerator

In 2016 we launched the Transcend + New Schools Collaborative, a cohort experience for forward-thinking districts and charter management organizations to reimagine and design what school could be.  During this intensive nine month program, we identify the learning outcomes our students need most, immerse ourselves in the latest learning science research, and generate a powerful action plan for innovation. Partner schools—such as Chicago International Charter Schools (CICS)—have seen powerful results.

Driven by the success of this Collaborative, we launched the National Design Accelerator to meet the demand for a lighter-weight and more flexible option for leaders of education innovation and equity.

Now through August 7, 2019, we are accepting interest submissions from school leaders who are launching a new site or redesigning an existing site who would be good candidates for the Design Accelerator.

We will select site leaders who…

  1. Dream big—They feel their current approach to schooling has limitations and are ready to imagine something truly bold.

  2. Prioritize innovation—They are ready to dedicate time and capacity to make their vision a reality.

  3. Are early in their design process—They have some exciting ideas or early plans in motion, but are still in the beginning stages of building a new school design.

  4. Are driven and comfortable with remote support—They are self-driven leaders who are eager to customize their design journey, get feedback and iterate.

The program begins in September 2019 and is priced at $20,000 in order to offer the Accelerator to a broad range of schools.

Interest submissions are due by August 7, 2019. The program is filling quickly this year so please help spread the word!
