At Transcend we care deeply about accelerating innovation in the core design of school. In recent weeks Transcend's team has grown with key hires and a great new board member, each of whom will help support a growing national network of educators who are passionate about school redesign. We are thrilled to welcome Jenee, Joanna, Anna, Tyler, and Trevor.
Jenee Henry Wood
Prior to joining Transcend, Jenee was Vice President of Knowledge at Teach For America, where she oversaw a variety of programmatic functions from content and pedagogy, to leadership development, to knowledge management. Earlier, she was a teacher in Atlanta Public Schools, where she worked with middle school aged students with learning differences and special needs. In 2011, she was awarded the national Sue Lehmann Award for Excellence in Teaching. Jenee began her work in nonprofits at Oxfam Great Britain, an international development charity fighting global poverty. She studied Economics and Russian at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, and Wadham College, Oxford University. She lives in New Haven, Connecticut.
We’re thrilled to share that Joanna Smith is joining Transcend as a Talent Associate. She will play a key role in building the Yellow Hats League, our R&D talent force. Joanna is a recent Harvard College grad and a Harry S Truman Scholar. Before joining Transcend, she was a Research Assistant at the Harvard Graduate School of Education Redesign Lab and was the Family Engagement Coordinator at Excel Academy.
Anna comes to Transcend from Springpoint, where she led the development of Springpoint's new school model design process and launch support programs, which include customized coaching, resource development, and ongoing design & iteration support. Before joining Springpoint, Anna served as a founding teacher and later principal of an innovative, highly successful New York City public high school. Prior to teaching, Anna spent nearly a decade working as a writer, researcher, and project manager in policy, politics, and technology firms. Anna holds a B.A. from the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina, and an M.S. in teaching from Fordham University. She is a graduate of the New York City Teaching Fellows Program and the New York City Leadership Academy.
One of our Harvard Ed.L.D. residents Tyler Thigpen completed his residency and is staying on with Transcend as a senior project lead. Tyler did awesome work with us during his residency, including building and growing Transcend’s broader community. He brings an incredible background that includes being a Pastor and leading and transforming (to a nationally noted, future-focused model) an independent school. Tyler will play a key role in the building of breakthrough school models.
Trevor is Transcend’s newest board member. Trevor is the lead Partner for the Personalized Learning Initiative at New Profit, where he plays a lead role in the investment selection process, serves as a Deal Partner, and runs the initiative’s learning community for peer-to-peer learning amongst selected organizations. He is an experienced growth advisor who has worked domestically and abroad in an array of industries and functional areas, including growth strategies, operations, and organizational development priorities. Trevor graduated from Tufts University with a BA in Economics and holds an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Trevor lives in Austin, TX, with his wife, Marice, and three children, Maria-Paz, Mariana, and Ian.
