Transcend’s team continues to grow with innovators who inform, design, and spread innovative learning environments. This month, we are pleased to introduce Nik Namba and David Nitkin.

Nik Namba

Nik has spent his career engaged in system-wide transformative work focused around building learner-centered personalized education systems. His last six years were spent in Lindsay Unified School District (CA) where he was a Principal and a district administrator in the role of the Director of 21st Century learning. Prior to this position, Nik served as the Chief Academic Officer of Ingenium Schools, a charter management organization operating schools in the Los Angeles area. He has also been an academic coach and a teacher and has been fortunate to experience all of these positions in systems focused on personalizing learning for all learners. Nik writes, “I'm excited to work at Transcend because they break the mold of traditional thinking about education, and open up a world of possibility for learners across the globe!”

Dr. David Nitkin

David has spent the last two years serving as Interim Executive Director and Chief of Staff of Two Rivers, a network of Expeditionary Learning public charter schools in Washington, DC. Prior to coming to Two Rivers, he spent four years leading the assessment, data, and accountability systems at the Public Prep charter school network in New York. He has also worked at KIPP:NY and TNTP, and taught middle school humanities at a district school in the South Bronx. David earned a BA from Yale University and a PhD in Education Policy from Columbia University Teachers College. He is also a former Teach for America corps member and Education Pioneers Fellow. David is excited to join Transcend and pursue two of his great professional loves—data analysis and the organizational design of schools!

Michael Vea

Michael, of San Diego, is an Ed.L.D. candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and is very excited about joining the Transcend family as a doctoral resident. In 2001, he joined Teach For America as a 5th grade teacher at P.S. 128 in New York City’s Washington Heights community. In 2005, he co-founded KIPP Infinity Middle School in Harlem where he taught 5th Grade Nonfiction Studies and 7th Grade American History. After 14 years in the classroom, Mike joined LitLife PD as a literacy and strategy consultant. He worked with a renewal school in NYC DOE District 8 in the Bronx, Fort Zumwalt School District in Missouri, and Dinuba Unified School District in California. A son of Filipino immigrants, Mike is also committed to expanding educational opportunities for children in the Philippines. In 2012, he served as the Co-Director of U.S. Strategy at Teach for the Philippines. Mike writes, “I’m excited to be joining a team of very thoughtful people—people who are eager to dream big with communities and create transformative learning environments for students across the country.”
